Excerpt From Immortelle

From... "THE BOYS OF THE BAY"
The dusty wharf swarms like an anthill,
Laughter and curses dance like friends,
Then to waiting Custom houses,
Slipping sideways, poached goods end
In the skirts of waiting mistresses;
Cans of corned beef, milk and beer;
It was hard work; it was good work,
Oh, those days won't reappear.

From... "THE LAST BARRACOON"
You viewed the leering eyes
Of boisterous profiteers,
You heard the rum-gorged sighs
From lecherous lips
As one by one,
Once proud shoulders,
Regal and poised,
Drooped on the auction block.
Then hastened away,
A history's page is turned.
